From sketch to symbol
This project centers on precision, craftsmanship, and meaningful experience. At the request of a regional retail chain, PF Design Labs developed a custom brass coin that serves not only as a physical reward, but as a tangible tribute to the dedication of employees in the field.
From concept to creation
The process began with a clear brief: create an object that feels like recognition, not standard promotion. Something you keep, not casually set aside.
The chosen form became a high-quality brass coin with an engraved design — subtle in aesthetics, powerful in symbolism. Initial sketches were worked out by hand in a bold, tactile style. No flat design, but characterful lines reflecting the raw dedication of retail work.
Technical approach
Production of the coin required a multidisciplinary process:
Engraving on the xTool F1 laser
Both the base design and engraving were carefully aligned and burned onto a flat brass plate, with special attention to sharpness and contrast.
Housing from bamboo and PLA
For presentation, a minimalist box was developed, partly 3D-printed (Bambu Lab P1S), partly laser-cut from veneer wood. Both parts were seamlessly combined in a click-fit construction, optimized for repeatability at scale.
Timelapse storytelling
The entire build process was captured via a cinematic timelapse, shot with a Sony A7IV at various intervals. The result: a compelling visual showcase of craftsmanship in action.
From prototype to potential product line
Initially, only one specimen was produced as a demonstration model. But with 40 locations in the client’s network, a concrete opportunity opens to translate this coin into a full line — each piece personalized per location, potentially with unique engravings or packaging variations.
Proposals for a scalable rollout are currently in preparation, including series production of coins, boxes, and a standardized fulfillment process.
Impact
This project proves that small physical objects can carry great emotional value — when thoughtfully designed and perfectly executed. PF Design Labs combines digital fabrication with strategic design to develop meaningful products that work: aesthetically, symbolically, and practically.
